BICOM’s distributed temperature monitoring system uses optical fiber as a sensor to watch ESS, substations and power tunnels over up to 20 km.
SOUTH KOREA, October 27, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Seongnam – BICOM Inc., a South Korean research and development company known for wireless communication systems, is presenting its Distributed Temperature Monitoring System (DTMS), a long-range solution that uses optical fiber cable as a continuous temperature sensor for energy and industrial infrastructure.
The Fiber Is the Sensor
In BICOM’s DTMS, the optical fiber cable itself works as the temperature sensor. According to the company, users can monitor an entire line simply by installing fiber cable along it, with continuous temperature monitoring over distances of up to 20 kilometers. The fiber does not require an external power supply.
BICOM states that the system supports on-site monitoring and is compatible with systems such as SCADA, which are widely used to supervise utilities and industrial plants.
Applications Across Energy Infrastructure
BICOM lists a wide range of applications for DTMS, including energy storage systems (ESS), electrical substations, bus ducts in buildings and factories, underground power tunnels, power generation facilities, pipelines, plants and power lines. The system can also be used for water and gas leakage detection.
In these environments, problems often begin as small, localized hot spots along cables, battery racks or ducts. Continuous monitoring along the full length of a line is designed to help operators identify such changes.
Patented Technology From a Wireless Specialist
BICOM was originally built around wireless communication products, and its expansion into industrial monitoring draws on the same engineering base. The company’s core technologies include wireless system design, digital signal processing, low-power miniaturized system development and temperature monitoring system development using fiber cables. BICOM’s company profile lists two Korean patents related to temperature monitoring, registered in 2022.
According to BICOM, its expansion into both communication and monitoring technologies reflects broader demand for integrated solutions in industrial and infrastructure sectors. The company says it will continue to strengthen its technological base while seeking opportunities in international markets.
About BICOM
BICOM was established on January 14, 2013, and is based in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. The company develops and manufactures two-way digital wireless intercoms, digital wireless microphones and speakers, uninterruptible wireless broadcasting systems, a smart wireless LED light control system and the DTMS. It has operated a corporate research institute recognized by the Korea Industrial Technology Association since 2014, holds Korea’s Inno-Biz certification (grade A, valid through August 2029) and is certified as a research and development type venture company (valid through November 2028).
